All of our doctors are Board Certified. They are members of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, as well as Fellows of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and members of the Santa Barbara Ventura County Dental Society. Dr. Ozaki is also a Fellow of the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Member of the American Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.

A. Scott Bennion, DDS, MD


Joined our practice in 1982. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where he completed his undergraduate training at Utah with a B.S. in Biology. He then received his dental degree from the University of the Pacific and went on to Vanderbilt University, where he received his M.D. and completed his oral surgery training. He trained further at Harvard, where he took two more years residency in General Surgery and Craniofacial Surgery. He was then Chief Resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He taught full time for one year at the Harvard Medical and Dental Schools. He enjoys performing all aspects of oral surgery, although his expertise is correcting skeletal facial defects.

Donald Nikchevich, Jr., DDS


Dr. Donald Nikchevich has been practicing in the Thousand Oaks area since 1991.  He is experienced in all forms of oral surgery though he specializes in dental implantology and advanced implant techniques such as: distraction osteogenesis, full mouth reconstruction, advanced bone grafting, all-on-four technique and sinus lift procedures. Over the course of his career he has placed over fifteen thousand dental implants. He takes great pride in providing the highest level patient care by ensuring a comfortable, safe and attentive environment from beginning to end.

After receiving his Bachelors Degree from the University of Southern California, Dr. Nikchevich attended the University of Southern California School of Dentistry where he earned his dental degree and became a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Following his graduation from dental school, Dr. Nikchevich began his residency at the Los Angeles County / USC Medical Center where he received his training for oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Nikchevich is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a Fellow in anesthesiology as recognized by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.  Additionally, he is currently the director of the Conejo/Simi Implant Study Club which is a continuing education society that organizes lectures from acclaimed speakers in order to benefit the local dental community. 


Michael L. Newton, DDS, MD


Dr. Newton attended dental school at Loma Linda University (D.D.S., with honors) and medical school at the University of Southern California. Dr. Newton has trained at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Medical Center, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and the University Medical Center in Fresno, California (affiliated with University of California, San Francisco).

Dr. Newton maintains an active interest in anesthesia, dental implants, including advanced bone grafting techniques, distraction osteogenesis, and sinus lift procedures, as well as orthognathic jaw surgery. He is a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Dental Association. Dr. Newton is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Newton takes pride in providing the community with superior service and patient satisfaction is his primary goal.


Wayne Ozaki, MD, DDS, FACS


Dr. Ozaki grew up in Anaheim, California. He received his undergraduate and dental school education at the University of Southern California. He graduated as valedictorian of his Dental School class in 1988. Dr. Ozaki trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency and attended Medical School at the University of Pittsburgh. He then spent a year as a Plastic Surgery research fellow at the University of Michigan. He continued his training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Ozaki’s final year of training was being the Craniofacial Fellow under Dr. Henry K. Kawamoto at UCLA.

Dr. Ozaki began his academic career at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) in 1999. After 5 years he achieved the academic rank of Associate Professor of Surgery. He has publications in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Annals of Plastic Surgery, the Craniofacial Journal, the Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has also had the opportunity to present his research nationally and internationally. In 2001, he was accepted as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. At OHSU, Dr. Ozaki was the Chief of Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Ozaki is board certified in the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Having two board certifications, He is uniquely qualified to perform cosmetic and reconstructive procedures on the face and entire body. He specializes in facial plastic surgery, aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring, and minimally invasive (endoscopic) surgery.

 Dr. Wayne Ozaki has now taken over as the Director of Craniofacial Surgery and Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine. He will continue to practice one day per week in the Westlake Village office specializing in cosmetic procedures and continue as the director of the Westlake Laser and Medical Spa.

 


Michael A Knutson, DDS, MD


The partners of Westlake Oral and Plastic Surgery are proud to announce our new Associate Dr. Michael Knutson.

Dr. Michael Knutson joined Westlake Oral & Plastic Surgery in 2017.  His training included obtaining doctoral degrees in both dentistry and medicine from Loma Linda University in Southern California. In addition to Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, his training included formal anesthesia training as well as completion of a year of general surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

 Dr. Knutson offers our patients full scope Oral & Maxillofacial surgery. His interests include anesthesia, oral reconstruction with dental implants, advanced bone grafting techniques, sinus lift procedures, removal of wisdom teeth, and surgical correction of skeletal deformities of the jaws. He is proficient in orthognathic surgery as well as reconstructive surgery for treatment of oral pathology and facial trauma.

 In training Dr. Knutson completed both his undergraduate and graduate training with honors. He received multiple distinctions and awards for excellence in academia and patient care. He has participated with, and is a member of several professional associations including the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, California Dental Association, and American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

 Dr. Knutson is thrilled to be staying in Southern California (where he grew up) with his wife and two children. He is committed to maintaining a standard of excellence in the community in the practice of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.


Jonathan Shadi, DDS


Dr. Shadi   and his family will be relocating to the West Los Angeles area.  We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication he showed to our practice and will miss the upbeat attitude and fine patient care he provided.

 Dr. Shadi joined the practice in 2014. He grew up in the West Los Angeles Area where he received his B.S. degree in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles with College Honors. He attended dental school at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry where he accomplished being on the Deans’ List multiple times and received the John Ingle Research award in 2009. After his dental training, he completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Internship at the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Long Beach, California. Dr. Shadi completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California San Francisco-Fresno. He is well versed in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery while taking a particular interest in dento-alveolar surgery, single or multi-unit/complex dental implant surgery, guided bone regeneration/reconstruction, maxillofacial trauma, and orthognathic surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
